ISONOBE!!!

I noticed the じょんのびTIME training courses that have been added to this site. One of the best has to be the climb up to Isonobe! Usually we would take in Isonobe as part of a longer course such as Kashiwazaki – Ukawa – Ishiguro - Takayanagi. The initial climb from the main road　(252) near Takayanagi is relatively easy going until you pass over the river where the gradient really picks up! It’s really steep from here through the switch backs up to the village.

じょんのびTIMEの練習コースがホームページに出ていましたね！その中でも磯辺のヒルクライムコースはすばらしい！私たちはこのヒルクライムを柏崎～鵜川～石黒～高柳というサーキットの中にいれています！国道252号線沿いの高柳から登り始めるのですが、川を渡る手前まではなだらかです。ここから磯辺村まではくねくねとした曲がり道でとても急です。

Isonobe has a rich history and was once famous for the “Isonobe carrot”. Apparently there was a sizeable community up there and even a school. Nowadays, sadly only 4 people live up there – all called Nakamura.

磯辺村には長い歴史があります。昔は"磯辺にんじん"で有名で、学校などもありひとつの社会が成り立っていたそうですが、残念なことに現在は4人しか住んでいません。（みんなさん中村さんという名前です。）

The climb continues to be steep through the village and past the shrine until it opens out into a big basin of tomato fields were the gradient lets up. This allows you to drop a few gears and put in all your remaining effort for the last couple of kilometers to the roads end. On a good day there are fantastic views from the top and if you plan your ride to finish in Takayanagi, you can enjoy the excellent じょんのび Onsen at the bottom.

村の中の急な道を更に登り神社を過ぎると、坂はすこし緩やかになりトマト畑が広がります。ここからギアアップし、ゴールまでの残り数キロを残っている力をふりしぼってがんばります！天気がいい日はとてもいい景色が見られます。もしこの坂の下の高柳を練習のゴールにすればじょんのび温泉にはいることもできます。

One of my main training goals this year is to beat last year’s best time of 18mins 37s. I’ll give it my best shot!

今年はこの磯野辺コースの去年の記録１８分３７秒を切りたいです。がんばります！！！
