saddle sores and “Enosan’s Magic Bum Cream”

Have you ever suffered from saddle sores? The kind of sores that hurt when you sit on the saddle?
I had a bad saddle sore for 2 seasons. It would go away if I took a rest but would soon be back when I rode for more than an hour or so. I tried to change my saddle height and even changed my saddle to one with a gel insert but the saddle sore kept coming back. I decided to visit a specialist “skin doctor”. I got some cream and antibiotics but still the sore kept coming back. I visited the doctor so many times that the old lady in the pharmacy used to say, “Has your bum not got better yet?” in front of all the other customers as she dispensed my medicine!

自転車に乗ったときにおしりが痛くなったことがありますか！？サドルに座れない位痛いことがありますか！？僕は２シーズンにわたって”saddle sore（サドルの擦れによるおしりの痛み）”に悩まされました。しばらく休むと痛みはなくなりましたが、また1時間以上続けて乗るとsaddle soreが出てきます。サドルの高さを変えたり、新しくジェル入りサドルに交換したりしました。でもsaddle soreは全然なくなりませんでした。それで皮膚科に行き、塗り薬と抗生物質をもらいました。でもまだ治りませんでした。何度も通院したので、とうとう薬屋のおばさんにおぼえられてしまって“おしりまだ治らないの？”と言われるようになりました。

Eventually I talked to Enosan about my problem. Enosan said, “Andy, I’m going to let you into a little secret. It’s called oronine!”, and went to his bathroom and brought back a little tub of the stuff. Oronine is standard antiseptic cream that you can find in most Japanese households. People use it on everyday cuts and grazes. Enosan swears by it and now so do I! I was that impressed with how effective it is that we even talked about re-labelling it as “Enosan’s magic bum cream” and selling it at a huge profit!

とうとう最後におしり問題についてエノサンと話しました。エノサンは“いいことを教えようか？！　オロナインです！”と言って家にあったオロナインを持ってきました。オロナインは市販のクリームで日本中のご家庭にある薬だと思います。それを試して“エノサンのお気に入り”は“僕のお気に入り”になりました。あまりに感心したので、その安いオロナインに“エノサン・魔法のおしりクリーム”というラベルを貼って売り出し、たくさんお金を儲けようか！！という話になったほどでした！
