sayonara ride
TOUR OF JAPAN / TOUR OF HOKKAIDOに出ている選手!
MOUNTAIN GOAT”!
Today was Arthur’s “Sayonara Ride”.
Arthur came down from Fukushima. Andrew and Kei came down from Niigata. Ohya san also came down from Niigata (by bike!!).
Kei said “Let’s ride in the mountains”, so we took in a hilly course:
Kashiwazaki~Nota~Ukawa~Sakurazaka Pass~Ogami Dake~Komura Pass~Nota~Kashiwazaki (56km, 1000 m of climbing)
Today’s approach to Ogami Dake is the easiest but when Andrew decided to move up to the front, it turned into a very hard climb indeed!
I went “all out” to avoid the elastic snapping. Arthur looked okay, but that’s what you’d expect from a guy who regularly races the TOUR OF JAPAN / TOUR OF HOKKAIDO!We were flying around the curves even though we were climbing. It was great fun!
At the top I said to Andrew, “You’re coming good eh!?”. To which he replied, “Nah, I’m just playing with you guys!”. Now that’s what we expect from the “MOUNTAIN GOAT”!
The remaining ups and downs were also taken at a high pace.
Once at home, all our families got together for a well earned lunch. It was a fantastic day. Thank you guys for making the effort to come down to Kashiwazaki.
And Arthur, take care on your return to Canada…….

It sure was a fantastic day Andy!
I was sooo hungry after the ride - thanks for a great lunch too!
Arthur take care and keep in touch!
No worries Andrew,
Never mind lunch, I'm interested to know what you had for breakfast that morning!? I was thinking "I bet he eats three shredded wheat" as I chased your wheel up that climb!
Usual breakfast of bowl of muesli and 2 slices of toast! I was feeling good but I just can't keep up the riding this year. No rides for me all week and I see you are out almost every day, even in the rain - good for you!
