yahiko race report
今年も弥彦ヒルクライムに行ってきました。じょんのびTIMEのスターティングメンバーは10人くらいでした。皆さん、お疲れ様でした！
いつもどおりレースレポートをします。
レースの前日起きたら、なんか風邪みたいでした。でも大丈夫！スズオトさんがビタミンCたっぷりの果物とエネルギーたっぷりのじょんのびガソリンを持って泊まりにきました。ありがとうじょんのび！
当日は朝5時に起きて、弥彦まで行きました。アップのために短い急な坂道を5回登りました。行くまでは体調が心配でしたがアップしたらなかなか元気になりました。
スタートラインでじょんのびTIMEの4人が最前列に並んで、とてもいい感じでした。
スタート直後、大雨が降りまりました。アンドリューさんはイギリスの南生まれ（一年間に300日雨）、僕はイギリスの北生まれ（一年間350日雨）ですから雨でも走るじょんのび！
でも雨は問題なくても暴風は大変でした。強風の時に一番いいポジションは僕のでっかい体の後ろです。でも自分の後ろに行けないから二番目のいいポジション、北野さんの後ろ、に行きました。
最初の5キロくらいは、ほとんど北野さんが前を走っていました。とてもいいペースでした。二週間前の練習みたいでした。でも今回はアンドリューと僕だけじゃなくて、何十人も引っ張ってくれました。強いじょんのび！
そして急なカーブの前で矢澤さんがアタックしました。北野さんも行きました。二人は元気に走って、二人で行けるかなと思いました。僕は3番目でちょっとSOFT PEDALLINGじょんのび！でも後ろから誰かきました。さすがの弥彦チャンピオン田崎さんでした！よし、田崎さんの後ろでいきます！早いじょんのび！
北野さんと矢澤さんのに追い付いて嬉しかった。でも田崎さんはそのままフルパワーじょんのび！さよ～なら～！
急なセクションはマイペースで登りました。その後で僕もフルパワーで行くつもりでした。
“アンドリュー行くぞ！”
“どうぞ行って下さい！”
アウターに入ってペースアップしました。でも風が強くて大変でした。後ろを見たらアンドリューと北野さんはいませんでした。大学生二人が一緒にきました。
その後二人の後ろでリカバリーしました。ラスト1キロにも一回フルパワーで走りました。一人で行けるように道の右側を走りました。ゴールまで久しぶりにアウターで登りました。
ゴールでMAPEI 1 2 3じゃなくて、じょんのび 6 7 8でした。GOOD JOBじょんのび!
湯之谷の時みたいにオールオバーじゃなくてよかった！
田崎さんが優勝しました。おめでとうじょんのび！
次のレースはジャパンカップです。もっと調子を上げたいと思います。田崎さんとトップグループと一緒に走られるように練習がんります！

I took part in Yahiko Hill Climb again this year. About 10 じょんのびTIME guys took part. Well done everyone!
As usual, my race report is below.
On the day before the race I woke with a cold. But no worries! Suzuoto san came to stay. He brought lots of Vitamin C packed fruit and lots of energy-rich じょんのび gasoline. Thank you じょんのび！
We got up at 5 and headed out to Yahiko. As a warm up I found a short quiet steep section of road and climbed it 5 times. I was a bit worried in the car but after the warm up I was starting to feel good.
On the start line 4 じょんのびTIME guys lined up at the front. It felt pretty good.
However, no sooner had we started as the heavens opened. Andrew is a native of the south of England （300 rainy days a year）, and me a native of the north of England （350 rainy days a year） so we don’t mind a bit of rain じょんのび！
The problem wasn’t the rain but the wind. When the wind is really strong like that, the best place to be in the pace-line is behind my big frame. However, I can’t draft behind myself so I went for the second best option and tucked in behind Kitano san.
For the first 5 kms, Kitano san did the majority of the work on the front. He set a really good pace. It was just like our training ride 2 weeks ago. Only this time, there wasn’t just me and Andrew following his wheels, but 10s of other guys as well. Strong じょんのび！
Just before we reached the steep hairpins, Yazawa san attacked. Kitano san followed. Both of them were riding well. I thought the two of them had a chance of getting away on their own. I was sat 3rd in line so I eased up for a bit of soft pedaling じょんのび！ But someone started to come from behind. Wouldn’t you know it! Yahiko Champion Tazaki san！I jumped onto his wheel！ Fast じょんのび！
We got back in contact with Kitano san and Yazawa san。That was enough for me but Tazaki san was going FULL GAS じょんのび！Sayonara！
I tried to get through the steep section at my own pace. I wanted to put my foot down after we got through that.
“Andrew, I’m gonna go！”
“Go ahead！”
I got into the big ring and raised the pace. It was hard though as the wind was so strong. I looked back and Andrew and Kitano san weren’t there. Two university students had followed me.
I tucked in behind the two of them to recover a bit. As we went into the last km I went full gas again. This time I wanted to be sure to go alone so I went up the right side of the road. I rode up to the finish line in the big ring – it’s been a while since I’ve done that!
At the goal it was not a MAPEI 1 2 3 but a じょんのび 6 7 8. GOOD JOB じょんのび!
I was happy that it wasn’t “all over” like at Yunotani！
Tazaki san came in first. Well done じょんのび！
My next race is the Japan Cup. I want to improve my condition some more. I want to get some good training in so I can keep with Tazaki san and the top group.
