Kashiwazaki ~ R8 ~ Nagaoka ~ Happodai ~ Nagaoka ~ R8 ~ Kashiwazaki (93 km, 1010m climbing, 27 kmph)

日曜日に fin’s の八方台ヒルクライムに行きます。自走で行くつもりなので、今朝トライアルランをしました。天気予報では朝9時から雨だったので5時に北野さんと一緒にスタートしました。

柏崎から自転車で曽地峠を登るのは初めてでした。風がアゲインストでなかなかハードでした。ハートレートが170くらいまで上がりました。

八方台の下に6時10分くらいに着きました。栃尾からは登ったことがあるのですが長岡からは初めてでした。長くて、景色が良くて、とても良いヒルクライムです。二人とも頂上がどこにあるか分からなかったけど、大きな看板があったので"あれが峠だろう！"ということになりました。

180HRでラスト勝負でした。でも看板に着いたら"八方台まであと3キロ"と書いてありました！

一番上に着いたら景色がとてもよかったです。それから風が急に強くなったのでゆっくり下りました。

長岡から柏崎まで風はものすごいアゲインストでした。曽地峠をがんばって登りました。

予定通り9時に家に着きました。でも雨は予定より30分早く降り始めました。その風と雨の中で走れば、東京－糸魚川は大丈夫じょんのび！

北野さん、またまたGOOD JOB!

On Sunday I will go to the Happodai Hillclimb organized by fins bike shop I want to ride there, so this morning I did a trial run. The forecast was rain from 9am so Kitano san and I headed out at 5am.

It was the first time I've climbed Sochi Pass from the Kashiwazaki side. There was a strong head wind making it harder than I expected and my heart rate rose to around 170.

We reached the foot of Happodai at around 6:10. I'd climbed over the pass from the Tochio side before but this was the first time to climb it from the Nagaoka side. It's long with great views making for a fantastic climb. Neither of us were sure where the top of the climb was but when we saw a blue sign in the distance words like “That's got to be the top” were exchanged.

I gave it a good dig and saw my heart rate rise to around 180. Once I reached the sign I noted it read “3 more kms to Happodai”!

At the top proper, the views were great. We noticed the wind became strong suddenly so we took care on the descent.

From Nagaoka back to Kahiwazaki the headwind was amazingly strong. I rode hard on the approach to Sochi Pass.

We were back home by 9 as planned． However, the rain had decide to start 30 minutes early.

Riding in that wind and that rain, we can face anything that is thrown against us in Tokyo~Itoigawa.

Kitanosan, GOOD JOB AGAIN!
